Mixed Emotions
King Islanders have complicated feelings about many aspects of life; the weather, the isolation and of course the footy. However, August has seen many locals struggling to come to terms with equal parts grief and joy concerning a change of management at the popular Bischoff’s Cafe. Of course everyone is sad to see Jo and Gavin move on to new adventures having created an institution at their out-of-the-way property. Many people believed their dream of creating a quality cafe surrounded by tranquil gardens was a folly at best but Jo demonstrated how determination, attention to detail and excellent customer service would thrill visitors and locals alike.
Before anyone had a chance to dry their eyes news emerged that all was not lost down Bischoffs Road. The new managers are Chantelle and Rob who have wowed visitors and locals with their creative menu and quality ingredients at several local establishments over the last few years. No one who tried their legendary breakfasts at the King Island Airport will ever again be able to suffer the limp and processed food at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport.
Chantelle says they’re both excited to finally have their own place where they can showcase the full extent of their skills using the best local ingredients. “We would like to thank all our local suppliers for their support and for taking the time to work with us on personalised items. We love to see how many times our customers can spot the word “Island” on our menu to show our appreciation for all the wonderful local produce available”.
Chantelle and Rob have also obtained a liquor licence and are planning to offer specially tailored dinners by appointment.
So while they may never agree about which team to support there is rare unanimity among locals who are simultaneously grateful for all that Jo brought to Bischoffs Cafe and excited for a bright and flavorsome future under Rob and Chantelle as this delightful local establishment goes from strength to strength.
